Bhutan’s currency is the Ngultrum (Nu) that is pegged with the Indian Rupee at par. Updated foreign exchange rates can be viewed on local banks website and at the airport. Currency exchange is available at Paro International Airport and the local banks. With the assistance of local guides, there are plenty of local shops travelers can go to that accept Indian Rupee and USD in exchange for Ngultrum.
Travelers are recommended to carry travelers’ cheque which can easily be withdrawn and exchanged for local currency and cash. However ATMs are available in most part of the country where travelers can withdraw money using Visa or MasterCard. Further in most hotels and restaurant, POS services are available.
